OBERLIN, Kansas -- Marie Zimmerman, 83, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Mountain Vista Care Center in Wheatridge, Colorado.

She was born Dec. 12, 1926, to Henry Heilman and Mary (Richardson) Heilman and was raised on a farm near Jennings, Kansas. She graduated high school at Jennings High School in 1944. Then she attended business school at Central Business School in Denver, Colorado followed by Mercy School of Nursing where she graduated in 1948.

On Jan. 26, 1948 she married Donald Zimmerman in New Almelo, Kansas. The couple lived in Hays, Kansas, then Denver, and finally in Oberlin in 1950.

She worked at Decatur County Hospital as an resident nurse, director of nursing, and operating room supervisor.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald; brother, Alfred Heilman; and parents, Henry and Mary Heilman.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda and husband, Damian Marintzer of Westminster, Colorado, Debra and husband, Ted Scheufler of Tempe, Arizona, and Karen and husband, William Buxton of Brighton, Colorado; two sisters, Helen and husband, Keith Muirhead of Dresden, Kansas, and Betty and husband, Bill Kelly of Junction City, Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin.

Vigil services will be at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin Monday, May 24 at 7 p.m. Visitation will be on Monday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, May 25, from 8 a.m. until the service.
