Ronald D. Mousel

Ronald D. Mousel of McCook died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Hospice of Tabitha Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln. He was 68 years old.

Ronald was born in McCook on Sept. 24, 1940, to R. Wendell and Velma M. (Hazen) Mousel. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958, and continued his education at Kearney State College. He graduated from the University of Nebraska -Lincoln in 1963, and the University of Denver Law School in 1966.

He married Nancy C. Meeks in Denver on Aug. 17, 1968. To this union two children were born, Ryan and Amanda.

He worked in Denver as an oil and gas attorney until 1973. They moved to McCook and Ron opened his own law practice, now Mousel and Garner, PC, where he was still practicing at the time of his death.

He enjoyed travelling, story telling and Husker football. He was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church; McCook Elks Lodge No.1434; Bartley Masonic Lodge including the bodies of King Cyrus Chapter No. 35, Occonoxee Council No. 16, St. John's Commandery No. 16, and Royal Arch Masons of Nebraska; Shriners Tehama Temple at Hastings; Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Nebraska Diplomats; 14th Judicial District Bar; Admiral in the Great Navy of Nebraska; University of Nebraska-Lincoln Touchdown Club; Nebraska Bar Association; Colorado Bar Association; a lifetime fellow of the Nebraska State Bar Foundation; and Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow and recipient of the Eagle Scout Award in 1957. He also served on the Board of Directors for Overland Trails Council No. 322 Boy Scouts of America and the Community Hospital Health Foundation Board.

Preceding him in death were his parents, R. Wendell and Velma Mousel.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mousel of McCook; son, Ryan Mousel and fiancée, Erin Teuber of Telluride, Colo.; daughter, Amanda B. and husband, John Sutton of Omaha; brother, Bill Mousel and wife, Shirley of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Brittany K. and Spencer K. Sutton; and numerous family and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the McCook Community Hospital Health Foundation or Overland Trails Council No. 322 Boy Scouts of America.

Visitation will be today and Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and on Sunday the family will greet friends from 4 until 6 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 20, 2009, 2 p.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Ewert and the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.
