Ann E. Rieger died June 28, 2008, at Community Hospital in McCook, Neb., at the age of 89.

Ann was born Jan. 22, 1919, on the family farm north of Culbertson, Neb., the daughter of Frank A. and Anna (Wittwer) Miller. Ann graduated from Culbertson High School in 1937, and attended Barnes Business School in Denver, Colo.

In 1940, Ann married Lloyd S. Taylor. To this union two children were born, Loyann J. and Douglas D. Lloyd and Ann purchased the Phillips 66 service station that Ann continued to operate after Lloyd was killed in a truck accident in 1956.

On Oct. 24, 1965, Ann married Carl E. Rieger and joined him as a custom harvester, traveling from Texas to Canada. They retired in 1992, and enjoyed traveling and playing the one-armed bandits. Ann had visited all 50 states.

Ann was a charter member of Stephen-Moorhous- Propp VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed working as a pink lady for more than 20 years at Community Hospital in McCook. She also enjoyed being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Ann was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Culbertson.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank, Paul and Max; sisters, Esther, Delta Burgess, Emma Martin, and an infant sister; husbands, Lloyd Taylor and Carl Rieger; and son, Douglas Taylor.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Loyann Hartzer and husband, Gaylin, of Wauneta, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor of McCook; brother, Ray Miller and wife, Alma Miller of Culbertson; sister, Ruth Hesseltine of Portland, Ore.; sister-in-law, Bernice Rieger of Clay Center, Kan.; grandchildren, Gaylin Hartzer, Lorrie Hofstetter and husband Mike, Phillip Hartzer and wife, Loretta, Kris Hartzer and wife, Chelle, Tawnia Geisler and husband, Boyd and Trevor Taylor and wife, Megan; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., today and Tuesday.
