Fern Elizabeth 'Betty' Wages

ELWOOD -- Fern Elizabeth "Betty" Wages, 86, died Friday (Jan. 11, 2008), at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Dec. 23, 1912, at Omaha, to Harry and Della (Reeder) Chapin. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1939.

She lived in McPherson, Kan., where she worked for Dr. Kubin, a milk inspector for the Grade A ordinance in McPherson County.

On July 31, 1942, she married Thearle A. "Parkie" Parkhurst. He served in the armed forces and they lived in Indiana, Maryland, Hastings and Glenvil, Neb. After he finished his service, they made their home in Cozad, moving to Chadron in 1960. They also lived in Gothenburg, Scottsbluff and Loveland, Colo. Thearle died Feb. 17, 1978.

On Dec. 1, 1979, she married Glen Wages. He died in September of 1986. She returned to Cozad in 1987 and moved to Elwood in 1994.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son,Paul David Parkhurst; five brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Mynette and husband, Lannie Roblee of Curtis, Sandy and husband, Donnie Franzen of Elwood, and Barbara and husband, Russell Story of Carrollton, Texas; a step-daughter, Penny and husband, Daryl Jarvis of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Maude Darling of Cozad; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 24 gerat-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Elwood, with the Rev. Connie Karr officiating. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, in Lexington.

There is no visitation or viewing.
