CAMBRIDGE -- Charles "Chuck" Brown, 88, died today (July 1, 2004) at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

He was born Sept. 13, 1915, to Joseph and Clara (Karash) Brown in Cambridge. He attended Cambridge High School. He was a farmer.

On Jan. 14, 1942, he married Maxine Mary Dolph. The couple made their home on a farm south of Cambridge. During the 1950s, he moved into Cambridge. He worked as a mechanic in a local service station and to a local implement dealer.

In 1958, he began driving a school bus for the Cambridge Public School System. He continued this until 1985.

In 1959, he began working in the Cambridge City Power Plant until 1967.

In 1967, he became a custodian for the schools and eventually became head custodian. He retired in 1985.

He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1953; his mother in 1975; his brothers, Lawrence and Harold; and his wife, Maxine in 1996.

Survivors include his son, David and wife, Glenda of Grand Island; son, Dale and wife, Lorri of Phillips; three brothers, John of Cambridge, Albert and wife, Florence of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joseph Robert "Bob" and wife, Phillis of Cambridge; four grandsons.

Mass of Christian burial is Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge.

The rosary will be recited Monday, 9:30 a.m., at the church.

Memorials can be given to the church of Cambridge Manor.
