LINCOLN -- Robert Evon Walcott, 83, of Wauneta, died Wednesday (April 7, 2004) at the Madonna Rehab Center in Lincoln.

He was born Feb. 2, 1921, to Joshua and Grace (Scott) Walcott in Northeast Yuma County, Colorado. He attended country school and high school in Holyoke.

He enlisted in the Army on Sept. 2, 1942, and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines before being discharged in December of 1945. He returned to Phillips County, Colo., and later gained employment in Denver.

On Nov. 21, 1947, he married Ila Pearl Hiatt in St. Francis, Kan. The couple made their home in Phillips County and managed the family farm for several years before moving to Imperial. The family lived in Imperial for several years while he worked for several different farmers. The family moved to Wauneta where he began his career with the Chase County Roads Department as a maintainer operator. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 304 of Wauneta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; grandson, Joshua Jones; half-sister, Gertrude Likens and husband, Cecil; and half-brother, Clarence Walcott.

Survivors include his wife, Ila of Wauneta; four daughters, Pamela Fricke and husband, Glen of Wallace, Shirley Jones and special friend, Ray Fletcher of Paxton, Carolyn Gerard of Lincoln and Jody Robertus of North Platte; son, Bucky and wife, Mary Walcott of Lexington; three sisters, Mabel Carruthers of Holyoke, Edna Harmon and husband, Everett of Holyoke and Annabel Huston and husband, Harry of McCook; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 10 a.m. (MST), at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Michael Laing officiating. Interment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

Visitation is Tuesday, 2-6 p.m. (MST), at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.

A memorial has been established in his name.
