John W. Walz

INDIANOLA -- John W. Walz, 85, died Tuesday (Dec. 18, 2001) at Community Hospital of McCook. He was born July 21, 1916, at Sauk Centre, Minn., to Adolph Frank and Anna (Santer) Walz.

On Nov. 20, 1945, he married Mary C. Kometscher. They made their home on a farm near Indianola.

He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and served on the District No. 39 school board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Maggie Ryan; one brother, Herman Walz; two sisters, Clara Borgerding and Mary Kometscher; and one great-grandson, Erik Werkmeister.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Walz of Indianola; one son, Bernard Walz and wife, Paula of Indianola; five daughters, Sister Cecilia Walz of Waverly, Alice Tines and husband, William "Dude" of Venango, Millie Cuellar and husband, Mike of Indianola, Virginia "Ginny" Bortner and husband, Ben of McCook, and Agnes Richard and husband, Ed of Bartley; 14 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Msgr. Daniel Pohl officiating. Interment will be at the St. Catherine's Cemetery.

The rosary will be recited Thursday, 7 p.m., at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.

Visitation is tonight until 8 p.m., and Thursday, 9 a.m. until the time of rosary at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name.
