Alice Julia (Kompus) Hutfles

HERNDON -- Alice Julia (Kompus) Hutfles, 90, died Sunday (March 23, 2003) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

She was born Dec. 5, 1912, at Lamoure, N.D., to Joseph and Lena (Toth) Kompus. As an infant, the family moved to a farm northwest of Herndon. She attended Walsh Country School and graduated from Herndon High School with the Class of 1930.

On Sept. 29, 1931, she married Clemens J. Hutfles at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon. They made their home in the Herndon Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clem sisters, Agnes Bosler and Helen Kuhns; and son-in-law, George A. Sattler.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice Sattler of Atwood, Marlene and husband, Tom Cook of Parker, Colo., Julie and husband, Robert Hafner of Herndon; a son, Clemens, Jr. and wife, Amy of Arvada, Colo.; one sister, Edith Pettera of Herndon; sister-in-law, Rose Marintzer of Victoria, Kan.; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Herndon with the Rev. Damian Richards as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Herndon.

A parish vigil and Christian Mothers rosary will be recited tonight, 7:30 p.m., at the church.

Visitation is today until 5 p.m. at Williams Chapel and after 6:30 p.m., at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church.
