CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Naomi J. (Young) Kelly, 82, died Saturday (Aug. 27, 2011), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born on the family farm near Indianola, Nebraska on Feb. 24, 1929, to Albert and Eva (Hill) Young. She attended school in Indianola.

At age 18, she married Ernie Potts on March 22, 194,7 in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union a son, Richard "Dick" Potts was born. The family moved to Cambridge in 1957. Naomi later married John Don Kelly on Dec. 17, 1993, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 2005.

She worked at the Reeder Variety store, cleaned homes for Perry Phillips and Phyllis King and later worked as a cook at the Heritage Plaza. Bored with retirement, Naomi worked for a short time at the Mues Good Samaritan Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She also worked as a hostess at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

Naomi loved to collect dolls, cook, sew quilts, crochet and garden. She enjoyed traveling, especially the Jerry Petersen bus trips. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle. Naomi enjoyed her pets through the years. She was a loving and caring grandmother and always available to help out.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don Kelly, and brother, Warren.

She is survived by her son, Dick and wife, Carla Potts of Cambridge; two granddaughters, Kimberlee and husband, Will Carruthers of Princeton, West Virginia and Kelsi Potts of Chicago, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Destry; two sisters, Elaine Mills of Clearwater, Florida and Beverly and husband Elmore Grafel of Culbertson; and brother, Eugene and wife, Pat Young of Cambridge.

Funeral services will be at the Trinity United Methodist Church Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with the Pastor Sherry Sklenar officiating. Interment will be in the Indianola Cemetery at 1:30 graveside.

Memorials may be left in her name to the Tri-Valley Medical Foundation.
