ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Roger H. Magnus, 71, died on Monday, June 13, 2011, at Bryan LGH West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was born Aug. 20, 1939, in Deshler, Nebraska to Louis and Emma (Atenhan) Magnus. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Deshler. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Deshler High School with the class of 1957.

Roger married Judith Schroeder on June 7, 1959, and had four daughters. They made their home in Arapahoe in 1968.

Roger was a carpenter by trade for most of his life. He worked in the lumberyard, had a construction business, owned Magnus Oil and Gas and owned Roger's Relics before retiring in Holbrook, Nebraska.

Roger was a volunteer fireman, fire chief and EMT in Alexandria, Nebraska for nine years and also in Arapahoe for 14 years. He was involved in many community projects including NCIP, community rehab, and many others.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by four children, Laurie and husband, Gail Warner of Holbrook, Debra and husband, Russ Carlson of Arapahoe, Peggy and husband, Jim Harwager of Lakeside, Nebraska, and Kathy and husband, Tim DeVries of Holbrook; three grandsons, Brady and Laine DeVries, and Tyrea Warner, all of Holbrook; sisters, Donlan Noojin of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Lois and husband, Don Voss of St. Joseph, Missouri; and friend, Judith Magnus of Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is Thursday, 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, and prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe.

Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Burial is Saturday, 10 a.m., at Deshler City Cemetery in Deshler.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
