DENISON, Texas -- Maurine Bogart Skoda died peacefully in the home of her daughter on Tuesday evening, May 5, 2009, at the age of 90.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at The United Church of Oberlin in Oberlin on Saturday, May 16, 2009, with services at 2 p.m. Pastor Judith Stricker will conduct the service followed by burial in Oberlin Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Arlyn Curl, Gene Tally, Aaron Geer, Gene Plotts, Jimmy Plotts and Kevin Brown.

Maurine Marjorie Bogart, the oldest of four children, was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Decatur County. She grew up on the family farm with her parents, Elmer C. and Esther (Simonsen) Bogart.

She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Margie (surviving husband Sidney Simonsen of Hinsdale, Mont.) and Aleen Bogart, and brother Elwood Elmer Bogart.

Maurine graduated in 1937 from Decatur Community High School and completed teacher training. She began teaching in Decatur County rural schools "Morning Star" and "Vallonia" before teaching in the Oberlin Elementary School.

Maurine married Paul Skoda June 21, 1947, and they lived in McCook, where Maurine again taught in the elementary school system. They moved to Loveland, Colo., and then Denison, Texas, where they were business owners before retiring and moving back to Oberlin in 1983.

Maurine was a member of the United Church of Oberlin and church women's organizations. She was also a member of the Decatur County Hospital Guild.

Maurine is survived by her daughter, Diane Geer of Denison and a son, Larry Skoda and wife, Paula of Rosenberg, Texas. Grandchildren are Aaron Geer and wife, Maria of San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer Skoda of Greeley, Colo., and Julia Skoda of Longmont, Colo. Great-grandchildren are Jasmine Geer and George Geer of San Antonio. She also leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She held a special place in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
