Rita M. Bauer

Rita Marie Bauer died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 79.

She was born Oct. 15, 1929, at Kearney, Neb., the daughter of the late Russell and Agnes (Litjen) Lawrence. She grew up at Kearney where she graduated from Kearney High School in 1948. She also graduated from Kearney State College where she received her teachers degree. She taught school for three years at North Platte, Neb., and from 1955 to 1964 she taught Junior High School in McCook.

On June 15, 1966, Rita married Walter (Fritz) Bauer at Colorado Springs, Colo., where they made their home. They moved to California for one year and then to Las Vegas, Nev., where they resided for 17 years before returning to Culbertson in 2006.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joan Luth.

Rita is survived by her husband, Walter "Fritz" Bauer of Culbertson, one sister, Ruth Wendell of Wilcox, Neb., and relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon.
