James Cody Raburn

April 8,1934 - April 11,2006

OMAHA -- James Cody Rabum was born in Lebanon, Neb., on April 8, and was united with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11,2006. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Edith (Edye) Marie Raburn.

He was preceded in death by his father. Harry Clifford Raburn; his mother, Pearl Savanna Raburn; brothers Clyde and Clifford; and sisters Clayda, Neva Martin, and Majestic Carfield. Clyde and Clayda were infant twins.

He is survived by his sisters, Mable Hart of Lincoln, Sharon Beebe of Garden Grove, lowa, and Trisha Baker of White Bear Lake, Minn.; brothers Clyde of McCook and Dewey of Keamey. He is also survived by his children, Debra and Michael Burch of Sperry, Okla., Cari and Jack Stuff of Tulsa, Okla., Timothy and Marna Rabum of Omaha.

Cody is also survived by his grandchildren, Felicia Lincoln and Amy Stuff of Tulsa, Okla. and Mackenzie, Joshua, Parker and Mason Raburn of Omaha.

He has one great-grandchild, Kevin Lincoln of Tulsa,

He lived in both Lebanon and Danbury, Neb., before the family moved to McCook where he graduated from high school in 1952. Nine days after graduation he enlisted in the Air Force. He earned the rank of Master Sergeant during his 13 years of service which included time in Marocco and Zaragoza, Spain. After an honorable discharge in March 1966 he worked for RCA and Control Data Corp. Within a few years he was offered a position with Amoco Oil Company as Computer Maintenance Manager in Tulsa.

He followed his love of flying by purchasing a Cessna, then a Mooney airplane and logged over 1,200 hours of enjoyment in the air before his health forced him to sell the airplane.

Once retired from Amoco, he became firmly entrenched in his long time love of classic antique autos - specifically the 1955 Chevy. He restored three cars, entered numerous car shows at which he won well over 100 trophies.

In 1991, the tug for home and Nebraska brought him back to McCook, where he spent most of his school years. He was a great supporter of the McCook Bison and the American Legion teams, traveling with the teams to out-of-town games.

Later, when his health would not permit, he followed their play on the radio. He proudly announced love for the Nebraska Comhusker team when living in the "realm of the enemy" in Oklahoma by displaying his Husker flag for all to see.

A vigil service was held Good Friday, April 14, 2006, 7:30 p.m., at West Center Chapel, Omaha, Ne. Funeral services were held Holy Saturday, April 15, 2006, 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Omaha. The Reverend Franklin A. Dvorak, Pastor, officiating.

Pallbearers were Joshua Raburn, Parker Raburn, Mason Raburn, Mackenzie Raburn, Dewey Raburn, Michael Burch, Jack Stuff, Amy Stuff, Felicia Lincoln and Kevin Lincoln.

Internment was at Resurrection Cemetery, Omaha. Full Military Honors by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Patrick School in McCook or McCook American Legion Baseball.

A Memorial Mass will be held May 10, 2006, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, McCook Neb., Reverend Gary Brethour, officiating.
