Van Cozad

HOLDREGE -- Van Cozad, 95, of Beaver City, died Thursday (Feb. 12, 2004) at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege.

He was born May 16, 1908, to Charles "Bert" and Naomi "Omi" (Smith) Cozad in Lyle, Kan. He grew up in Lyle where he attended College Hill County School.

On March 22, 1929, he married Irene Powell in Lyle. The couple farmed in the Lyle area. He retired in 1987. The couple moved to Beaver City following retirement to be near family. He moved to Beaver City Manor in 2003.

He was a member of the Lyle Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Beaver City. He was also a member of the Grace Brethren Church of Beaver City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene on Aug. 12, 2001; grandson, Shawn Gallentine; and two sisters, Maude and Mildred Mayo.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth and husband, Dwight Vise of Beaver City and Karla and husband, Dennis Clason of Beaver City; one brother, Rex and wife, Merle Cozad of Hutchinson, Kan.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are Saturday, 1:30 p.m., at Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Dwain Fowler and Linda Knipping officiating. Interment will be in Lyle Cemetery in Lyle.

Visitation is Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services at the church.
