Riley Burns II

Riley Burns II, 88, of Trenton, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003) at Community Hospital of McCook.

He was born March 27, 1915, to Riley and Della May (Lentz) Burns in Barlow, Ky. He grew up in Caro, Ill., where he graduated from rural school.

In 1938, he married Alice Eastwood. The couple spent their married lives farming in southern Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in 1987; six brothers, Ralph, George, Charlie, Clifford, Ira and Robert; two sisters, Blanche Richard and Bernice Beaver; one son, Ira Burns; and two daughters, Sharon Eighner and Elaine Burns.

Survivors include eight sons, Riley and wife, Joan Burns of Trenton, James and wife, Nancy Burns of Bartley, Roy Burns and Gary Burns, both of Portland, Ore., Todd and wife, Rindee Burns of Marion, Ohio, Ted and wife, Toni Burns of McCook, Rick Burns of Rantoul, Ill., and Steven and wife, Sarasha Burns of Charleston, Ill.; one daughter, Carol Kilgore and husband, Harvey of Shelbyville, Tenn.; and many grandchildren.

His remains were cremated and no local services are planned.

A memorial services will be in the spring at Cobden Cemetery in Cobden, Ill.

Memorials may be given in his name and left at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.
