Iris Edna (Schroder) Witt

ARAPAHOE -- Iris Edna (Schroder) Witt, 86, died Tuesday (Oct. 15, 2002) at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Aug. 28, 1916, at Orleans to Nicoloi and Edna (Humiston) Sasse. She graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1934.

On Sept. 25, 1938, she married Edward E. Schroder of Oxford. They lived in Florida before returning to Nebraska in 1942 to operate a dry cleaning business in Palisade. They then moved to McCook until 1960, when they moved to Arapahoe and owned and operated Schroder's Cleaners. Following the death of her husband, she continued the business on her own until 1974.

In 1974, she married Clayton Witt of McCook. They lived in Holdrege and McCook before moving to Arapahoe in 1978.

She was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Altar Guild and Episcopal Woman's Guild. She also served on the Arapahoe Library Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edward E. Schroder in 1969, and Clayton Witt in 2000; three brothers, Neil, Dean and Earl Sasse; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include a son, Don Schroder and wife, Dede of Arapahoe; one daughter, Barbara and husband, Richard Dawson of Johnson Lake; two sisters, Opal Johnson and Greta Wittfoth of Holdrege; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Lawrence Jaynes officiating. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford.

Viewing will be today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested for St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center of Arapahoe.
