BENKELMAN -- Grace Rebecca (Alsbury) Whiteley, 90, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.

She was born Oct. 24, 1912, at Hiawatha, to Frederick Levi and Addie Rebecca (Faris) Alsbury.

On July 30, 1938, she married Alvin James Whiteley at Sterling, Colo.

In 1939, they moved to the farm northwest of Benkelman which became their family home.  She retired from farming in the middle of the 60s, but they continued to live on the farmstead. After her husband's death in 1990, she lived there by herself until 1994 when her daughter returned to Benkelman to live with her.  Failing health required her to move to the Hester Home in May of 2002.

She was a member of the Benkelman Church of Christ and later the Stratton Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Frederick and Addie Alsbury; husband, Alvin; four brothers, Carl, Floyd, Freddie, and Kenneth; and four sisters, Edith Trembly, Mary Alsbury, Bess Mulder, and Vada Grams.

Survivors include her daughter, Rose Marie Whiteley of Benkelman; sister-in-law, Wilda Alsbury also of Benkelman; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., in the Forch Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
