NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — They covered all areas of the color medal spectrum as senior Alexis Steinbeck won gold, sophomore Eden McPherson earned silver and senior Peyton Cock bronze at last weekend’s North Platte Invite.

The Bison featured seven other wrestling placers while totaling 124 points — fourth among 16 teams competing just after New Year’s.

Steinbeck stomped through 155-pound foes with no match beging closer than 14-2.

McPherson remains the team’s top winner at 17-3 as she also scored two first-period pins.

Cock faced two opponents who owned more than 10 wins this season — and she finished both within 42 seconds.

McCook’s Maria Hernandez-Rodriguez also continued her strong second Bison wrestling season. She reached 15 wins overall, scoring pins including an impressive final pin of 10-7 Maliyah Olsen from Bayard.

The Bison powered their way past some formidable western teams like Sidney and Cozad besides the Crete Cardinals based near Lincoln.

Only Gering, North Platte and those powerful Southwest Roughriders with three champs outscored McCook.

New varsity wrestler Stormi Knight delivered one more top four performance for the Bison as she scored 14 more points for the Bison.
