McCook team delivers great performance at Cornhole event

PAPILLION, Neb. — Coach Lynne Kinne provided these details:
“On Friday, McCook Special Olympic athletes competed in the inaugural cornhole event at Papillion Landing.
McCook had a great evening of competition bringing home a lot of hardware.

In the 21 ft. men’s divisions, McCook’s Allen Holliday and Blaze Powers brought home the gold, winning both of their games by a large margin.
They defeated two teams from Capital City winning 24 - 1 and 22 - 1 respectively.
In another male division, the brothers team of Blake Myers and Braxton Baumann defeated teams from Falls City 22 - 4 and 21 - 12 to earn a gold medal.
The women’s team of Brittany Carney and Sharon Garrido brought home a silver meda losing to South Sioux City 16 - 8 and then defeating York 14 - 5.
In unified doubles the team of Amanda Kinne and Erica Kinne brought home the silver medal. They were defeated by Kearney 21 - 17 and then would eventually defeat Papillion La Vista 22 - 9.
In 15 ft. action, the teams of Andrea Loghry and Gary Grosbach and Riley O’Brien and Michael Graham won the silver and bronze medals in their division. O’Brien/Graham lost to Elkhorn 11 - 8 and Loghry/ Grosbach lost to Elkhorn 17- 6.
The two teams then competed head to head with Loghry/Grosbach defeating Graham/O’Brien 14 - 9.
“ It was a great evening of competition and I am so very proud of all participants.
They represented McCook well and did a great job showing good sportsmanship throughout the evening”, according to Coach Lynne Kinne.
A special shout out to Emily and Natalie from SWATs for driving athletes to the competition as well as all the parents who came to support our team. I look forward to our next competitions which will be held in February.
These will include bowling and basketball.
