BEAVER CITY, Neb.— The Furnas County Sheriff’s office has deployed trail cameras and thermal imaging equipment in an effort to confirm reported sightings of an adult mountain lion with cubs in the northwest part of Beaver City.

Additionally, a deputy will be stationed in town for several days to ensure a rapid response if needed.

Authorities emphasize that only authorized personnel from the Sheriff’s Office or Game & Parks are permitted to handle the situation, with specific criteria to be met before dispatching the animal.

Residents who believe they have relevant information or spot the mountain lion are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.

While urging residents to maintain their usual routines, officials advise being extra vigilant of surroundings. Keeping pets and children under close supervision is recommended, especially during outdoor activities.

Collaborating with Game & Parks and a federal trapper, law enforcement agencies are working to ensure the safety of Beaver City residents.

Any sightings of the mountain lion should be reported promptly to the Sheriff’s Office or by dialing 911, providing detailed information on its location and behavior.
