School board to consider new stricter policy on cellphones

Friday, May 10, 2024

McCOOK, Neb.- The upcoming school board meeting will call for change. A new cell phone policy will be introduced in June but discussed at the Monday, May 13, 2024 meeting. The policy’s objective is to boost student engagement and academic performance. A parent survey earlier this spring indicated overwhelming support for the policy change.

Potential changes to Title IX regulations will be discussed. Recently, the Biden Administration released new Title XI regulations that would significantly overhaul the existing Title XI regulations. Given the uncertainty of the court challenge and the fact that the upcoming presidential election could nullify any temporarily enjoined rules, school attorneys will be monitoring the progress of these regulations.

As the school year draws to a close, the School Board will be making important decisions. They will be asked to accept the resignations of teachers not returning next year and to approve new contracts for  teachers. Remember, the McCook Public School Board meets the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m, and your attendance is highly encouraged as it promotes transparency and community involvement.
