Area tracksters, field stars topping Class D early leaderboards
LINCOLN, Neb. — Yes indeed, several area athletes are already at or near the top of Class D state track-field leader boards as invites really heat up in April.
The Don Stine Invitational on Monday in Cambridge will include these top contenders:
Cambridge junior JoLie Farr leads all of ‘D” with her 12.48 100-meter dash time.
Dundy County-Stratton sophomore Clara Spargo is running second at 12.62, and there’s Tiger teammate Kayana Riley holding No. 3 at 12.7. All these leaders have been reported to athletic.net.
If anyone thinks “well, that’s just Class D”, realize Farr would rank second among all of Class C and top five whether looking at Class A or B.
Spargo’s holding the top 200-meter ‘D’ spot with a 25.75 time, just beyond Sutherland speedster Story Rasby’s 26.27.
The Tiger sprinting talent can be seen on their D-leading 400-meter relay where Spargo, Riley, senior Alyssa Schneider and Emma Baldeh ran a 52.25 time last week.
A Leyton foursome is running second at 52.96.
Maywood-Hayes Center’s 3200-meter relay holds first as Reagan Stengel, Karissa Stengel, freshman Caylie Softley and Addison Richards ran 10:24.6 at the Sutherland Invite.
RPAC rival Wallace is the Wolves’ top pursuer at 10:29.91.
DC-S sophomore Kennedy Bailey delivers one more Class D early-season best mark as she threw the discus 128’1”.
Several are holding second places like Southern Valley’s Adi Hunt in the 400 meters (1:00.94).
On the boys’ side, it’s a freshman shot put leader leading all of Class D: DC-S Tiger Brock Bailey reaching 53’10”.
Bailey would currently hold Class A’s No. 2 spot behind only Isaac Ackerman from Omaha Central (57’).
He’s only No. 6 all-class since Class B and C both feature two top five throwers so far. Again, almost all these area athletes will compete at Cambridge Monday.
