Wolves rallied again to topple Mustangs in D-2 semifinals
LINCOLN, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center’s boys broke from a tie after three quarters and beat three towns in Sumner, Eddyville and Miller for a 53-48 D-2 semifinal win Friday.
Senior Gage Gerlach’s own three helped the Wolves take a 14-10 lead through one quarter.
Yet the No. 6-seed Mustangs were still hot off a 70-49 quarterfinal upset of No. 3 Walthill.
They shot into a 31-26 halftime lead which looked even stronger at 39-33 deep into period three.
Yet junior Jaxson Anders’ three-point would ignite a final 20-9 May-Hay flurry.
Senior Haydn Farr’s basket made it 39-38 then top scorer Jeremiah Ingison rolled in two free throws for the 40-39 advantage.
The No. 2-seed Wolves never looked back as Gerlach’s driving basket and bank shot made it 44-39.
S-E-M closed within 48-46 at one point, but Ingison added two more free throws and May-Hay was on its way.
