Red Devil senior wrestles to second at Kansas championships

SALINA, Kan. — Lukas Zodrow defeated two Kansas state wrestlings with 70 combined wins en route to representing Decatur Community-Oberlin in Saturday’s state finals.

Zodrow (36-3 this season) had already powered beyond 100 career wins about when the McCook Bison challenged them during January.

L.Z. has kept on winning at 138 pounds which he showed against 33-8 Landon Koelling of Onaga on Friday.

Zodrow delivered a dominating 6-0 quarterfinal victory then advanced into the Class 3A-2A-1A state semifnals.

No problem.

Zodrow was a 10-4 winner over 37-8 Reid Griffiths of Herrington for his state finals spot.

Though he fell 9-1 to state champ Josiah Ball from Hoisington, Zodrow claimed his runner-up state medal to go with capturing third place one year ago.

The Red Devil senior’s heroics higlighted four wrestlers from Decatur and Rawlins County-Atwood who qualified.

Rawlins’ Gus Hanson scored two wins in the 150-pound division of 3A-2A-1A but fell one win frm claiming his own state medal.

All the Decatur Community-Oberlin and Rawlins County-Atwood results from 3A-2A-1A state wrestling last weekend.

138 pounds — Lukas Zodrow (36-3 season record) placed second and scored 20 points. He pinned L. Burnett, Caney Valley, in 3:20; won 6-0 quarterfinal over L. Koelling, Onaga; won 10-4 semifinal over R. Griffiths, Herington; and lost 9-1 final to J. Ball, Hoisington.

132 — Reid Fort (26-13) scored one point. He was pinned by E. Coble, Howard-West Elk in 3:36; won 6-4 in OT over M. Wilkens, Council Grove; was pinned by C. Wiike, Sabetha.

Rawlins County

150 pounds — Gus Hanson (32-9) scored six points. He pinned C. Svitak, Herington, in 2:50; lost 22-7 tech fall to C. Menold, Sabetha; won 13-0 over T. Lastinger, Haven; lost 9-7 to B. Smith, Minneapolis.

144 — Ryan Sramek (24-7) scored two points. He won 12-7 over R. Booe, Cherryvale; was pinned by O. Weatherhead, Belleville-Republic County, in 5:38; pinned by K. Gutsch, Riley County, in 5:23.
