NSP investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

COLUMBUS, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a Columbus Police Department officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy.

According to a news release, Columbus police were conducting a welfare check on a subject following a report of potential self-harm at a residence in the 3900 block of 38th Street. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene following the shooting.

The Columbus Police Department requested the NSP investigation, which is ongoing. Additional information will be released when possible.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
