Arda Latta

McCOOK, Neb. - Arda Carola Hidy was born March 7, 1931, to Carl and Zella (Persinger) Hidy on a farm near Trenton, Neb. She passed on to her heavenly home on Dec. 7, 2023.

She attended Trenton Public School and graduated with the class of 1948. As a result of Normal Training in high school, Arda taught in Hitchcock County rural schools for three years. In order to renew her teaching certificate, Arda attended Anderson College in Indiana, Morningside College in Iowa, McCook Junior College, and Kearney State College while continuing to teach in rural schools for five years and then kindergarten and elementary music in Stratton Public School for several years. Arda had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions as a young woman.

In 1960, Arda married Willard (Bill) Latta in Trenton, Neb. To this union, two sons were born: Mark and Casey. Bill and Arda had been married for 47 years when Bill passed away in 2007. Arda stayed on the farm north of Stratton until moving to McCook in 2008. In 2013 she moved to the retirement home now known as Kinship Pointe in McCook. Arda was a long-time member of Community United Methodist Church in Stratton, teaching Sunday School, VBS, and Confirmation class for many years. While in McCook, she attended Memorial United Methodist Church. Prayer life was very important to Arda and she was faithful in her prayers for family and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Bill, special aunt, Ellen Odell and sister Donna Hidy.

Survivors include two sons: Mark and wife Kathy (Goodenberger) of McCook, Casey and wife Terri Dunn of Holland, Neb.; grandchildren Jack and wife Maggie (Sanders) Latta of Grand Rapids, Mich., Katie and husband Christian Farrell of McCook, Max and Nora Latta of Holland, great-granddaughter Margo Farrell, and many other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec, 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Methodist Church of McCook with Pastor Jeff Kelly officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Stratton at 2:00 p.m. (CST). Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. There will be no formal visitation for Arda, friends may sign the memorial book at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. Memorials may be left in Arda’s name at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel.
