MCC announces best 'Teammates' in 2023
McCOOK, Neb. — McCook Community College announced its winners of the 2023-2024 Teammates Scholarships.
The Holly Myers Female Teammate of the year is Ella Covill-Marter, softball and the Myron Mingo Male Teammate of the year is Zeki Cavli, men’s basketball.
These scholarships were established to honor former MCC Basketball player Myron Mingo who was killed during Christmas break, 2008 at his home in Marksville, La., and also for former volleyball player Holly Myers who died July 17, 2017, in a motor vehicle accident.
Each year these scholarships recognize second-year student athletes from each of MCC’s six sports.
They were nominated for the attributes required to be a good teammate, like those possessed by Mingo and Myers.
Here are the nominees for each sport’s teammate of the year (there are no nominees for men’s golf because there are no returning sophomores):
Softball: Ella Covill-Marter, Queensland, Australia
Men’s Basketball: Zeki Cavli, Bodrum, Turkey
Volleyball: Fernanda Merancio, Lamar, Colo.
Baseball: Will Edwards, Sydney, Australia
Women’s Basketball: Natalie Harmata, Sydney, Australia.
