McCOOK, Neb. — After pleading no contest to sexual assault of a child and other sexual assault charges, a former McCook martial arts instructor was sentenced to up to 86 years in prison.

On Monday, Red Willow County District Court Judge Patrick M. Heng sentenced Robert Botsford, 63, to 30-40 years in prison each on two counts of first-degree sexual assault, amended from first-degree sexual assault of a child, with credit for 185 days served.

Botsford was also sentenced to 35-36 months on two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child, and one count of first-degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child were dismissed under a plea agreement.

The sentences are to be served consecutively.

The affidavit outlining the case has been sealed, but a complaint outlining the charges says the case involved four victims younger than 14. The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 2003 and 2013.

Botsford, a fifth-degree black belt, had been a martial arts instructor in McCook since 1998.
