Janeice “Birdie” C. Jumps

CULBERTSON Neb. - Janeice “Birdie” C. Jumps, age 87 of Culbertson, passed away at the Wauneta Care Center in Wauneta, Neb. on July 6, 2023.

She was born in McCook, Neb. on March 10, 1936, to Donald “Bud” and Merylin (Rippen) Fassler. She attended and graduated Culbertson High School in 1953.

On February 22, 1955, Birdie was united in marriage to Robert Jumps. To this union four children were born: Mark, Trina, Craig, and Lisa. Robert preceded her in death in 1992.

Robert and Birdie made their home on a farm near Culbertson. She worked by his side on the farm and in the fields. Birdie loved animals. She would raise bucket calves, goats, ducks, and many other animals her grandkids would ask for. She loved to work in her yard and garden. Birdie was always adding and planting more flowers to her yard. She was an avid Culbertson Bear fan as well as a die-hard Big Red football and volleyball enthusiast. She loved to watch college football and major league baseball.

Birdie was a life member of the United Methodist Church of Culbertson. She taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed playing card games, pinochle, pitch, and solitaire. An independent woman, Birdie continued to live on the farm until her health failed, and she had to move to the Wauneta Care Center for three months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Merylin; husband, Robert; and a brother, Kim Fassler.

Birdie is survived by her two daughters, Trina and husband Nate Hoyt of Culbertson; Lisa and husband Brad Gross of Earling, Iowa; two sons, Mark Jumps of Arapahoe, Neb., Craig Jumps and Cherri Liess of Culbertson; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Lori Jumps of Lincoln, Neb.; sister-in-law, Carla Fassler of Culbertson.

Funeral Services were held on Tues. July 11, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Culbertson Methodist Church with Rev. Alisa Parde officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
