A different type of effort for Firecracker safety

Tarps were on the Jaycees Complex diamonds Thursday in an attempt to protect three fields for McCook’s annual Firecracker fastpitch softball tournament set for Saturday and Sunday.

A total of 24 teams mostly from Nebraska — including six McCook squads — and Colorado are expected to participate.

McCook Rebels coach Lance Gillen said the fields would be worked with hopes not much more rain would fall.
