STRATTON, Neb. - Vincent DePaul Sis, 86, of Stratton, Neb., departed this world on Fri., June 9, 2023, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, North Platte. Neb. with family by his side.

Vincent was born July 19, 1936, in Stratton, Neb., to Joseph F. and Anastasia (Daisy) Sabatka, Sis. He was the youngest of seven children. Vincent attended school at Prairie View through the eighth grade, and went on to Atwood High School, graduating with the class of 1955.

In the fall of 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, the same as his father and three older brothers. He was stationed in Hawaii and served actively until 1957. Vincent then served in the Army Reserve until being honorably discharged in 1961.

After his active service, Vincent moved to Lincoln, Neb., for a short few months. He then returned home to the Stratton area, after a phone call from his older brother Bernard, to start a lifelong career of farming and ranching. Bernard passed away in 2003, and Vincent continued the farming and ranching operation with his sister-in-law, Delpha, two nephews, Jarett and Jeremy, and son, Joel. He was active with the farm if not in body, but in mind all the way till his passing.

In 1975, Vincent met the love of his life and future wife Melissa Ann Ross in Stratton, Neb. Vincent and Melissa were married on May 28, 1977, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church rural Atwood, Kan. Two boys blessed this union, Justin Michael, in 1978, and Joel Matthew in 1981. Vincent and Melissa were married for 43 years, until her passing in 2020. In December 2003, grandson, Ainsley Richard, was welcomed into the family, followed by Stetson Riley, in 2008.

Vincent was a life long Catholic, being a member of St. John Nepomucene, of rural Atwood, Kan., then St. Joseph Catholic Church of Stratton, Neb. in 1977. He loved the Lord and faithfully attended Mass until his health prevented his attendance. Vincent continued viewing Mass on television every day. Though he had many health problems through his later years, he always put his trust in the Lord.

Vincent was a lifelong member of FCSLA (formerly, Catholic Workmen) His memberships also included, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Melissa; son, Justin; brothers, Albert, Bernard, Joseph (Theresa); sisters, Beatrice (Norbert) Schummer, Josephine (Raymond) Horinek, and Thresa, in infancy; mother-in-law, June Ross; brothers-in-law, Ron Boardman, and Robert Ross; sister-in-law, Marcia Ehmke; nephews, Leonard and Lavern Schummer; and niece, Loretta (Richard) Wiess.

Those left to mourn his passing, are his son, Joel of Stratton, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Delpha Sis, of Atwood, Kan., Norma Stanley of Plattsmouth, Neb., Shirley Boardman, of Seward, Neb., Diane Ross of Murray, Neb.; brother-in-law, Gary Ehmke, of Syracuse, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Tasha (Aaron) Schroder, of North Platte, Neb.; grandsons, Ainsley Schroder and Stetson Schroder of North Platte, Neb.; close friends, Sandy Thompson and Donna K.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Fri., June 16, 2023, 10:30 a.m. (CT) at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stratton, Neb. with Father Matthew Eickhoff celebrant. Interment will follow at St John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery, rural Atwood, KS., with full military honors.

A rosary will be recited Fri., June 16, 2023, 9:30 a.m. (CT) at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Stratton, Neb.

Visitation will be held Fri. June 16, 2023, starting at 8:00 a.m. (CT) at the St. Joseph Catholic, Stratton, Neb.

A memorial, In Vincent’s memory, has been suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Stratton, Neb.
