Rebels whip all but Adrenaline at Hays tourney
HAYS, Kan. — McCook’s 16-and-under Rebels won three games between losses to the Adrenaline at last weekend’s Hays, Kan., fastpitch softball tourney.
There was a 3-3 tie with Hays Hustle but the Rebels otherwise recovered from an opening 6-2 defeat to Adrenaline.
They gobbled up the Flames of Nebraska Red Hots, 13-0, as Briley Morgan struck out five during her three innings in that pitcher’s circle.
The Rebels conquered an older 18-and-under Lady Crushers team by a 4-0 final Sunday morning.
Paige Bortner drove home three of those four Rebels runs.
Coach Lance Gillen’s Rebels then took a 9-7 thriller from Nemesis later on Sunday.
They took a 5-0 before the first Nemesis swing, then fell behind 7-6 before plating three decisive last-inning scores.
Roslyn Wiemers delivered three huge RBIs while Bortner totaled two more hits.
Danika Havlicek pitched two innings in this well-earned win.
The Rebels (12-4-2 record) ran out of some steam during a 2-0 final loss to those same Adrenaline.
Malia Hilker, Morgan and Havlicek each ripped one Rebel hit.
Morgan also pitched four innings. The game was 0-0 until two fifth-inning runs for Adrenaline.
Dani Johnson and Havlicek both had two hits during the 3-3 tie.
