LINCOLN, Neb. — Grants of up to $40,675 are available to rural homeowners in Frontier, Furnas and Red Willow counties whose homes were damaged in the Road 702 fire that began April 22, 2022, as part of President Biden’s declaration of a disaster area and the availability of $55.7 million in grant funding through the Rural Disaster Home Repair Grant Program.

According to the program:

• The applicant can have a household income up to the low-income limit.

• There is no age restriction (though the applicant must be considered an adult under state law).

• The damaged home must be located in an eligible rural area and in a CY 2022 Presidentially declared disaster area.

• Eligible application packagers may charge a packaging fee of up to $1,000 (which can be covered by the grant) to assist eligible homeowners through the application process.

Nebraska was allocated $1,500,000 to help homeowners in 23 counties that were impacted by disasters in CY 2022.

Impacted rural homeowners and application packagers interested in learning more about the program should contact the Nebraska Single-Family Housing Team by email: SM.RD.NE.SFHQST@usda.gov or by calling: 402-437-5551
