GERING, Neb. — Sophomore Brooklyn Gillen scored 16 second-half points in game one while senior Evan Humphrey delivered his usual fine shooting performance during McCook's second varsity basketball contest Thursday night.

Yet there weren't a lot of other highlights during this varsity doubleheader against the Gering Bulldogs.

McCook High girls (8-12 record) scored 40 second-half points but only seven before intermission of a 49-47 setback. Gering celebrated just its fifth girls victory in 21 games this season.

The McCook boys (13-7 record) took a 25-13 first-half lead and still led 30-23 at intermission.

However, the Bulldogs' 26-point third quarter fueled their 63-46 comeback win. Gering's boys are now 11-9 overall.

McCook will remain in the Panhandle for Friday's doubleheader against strong Scottsbluff teams.

Watch for more details.
