Southwest girl earns spot at Nebraska State wrestling meet

BRIDGEPORT, Neb. — Southwest’s Madelyn Tryon qualifed for state wrestling when she placed second at last weekend’s District 4 championship meet.

Tryon placed second at 190 points while raising her season record to 18-6.

She needed just one minute to pin Haley Dunn from Perkins County.

Kylee Allen challenged Tryon in the semifinals, but also took pin 40 seconds into their third period.

Tryon advanced into the Distrct 4 finals where she fell short in 1:06 against Sindey’s Saphira Whitley (14-5 record).

The Roughrider still advances to Omaha’s CHI Health Center for Nebraska State starting one week from today.

Southwest teammate Gracelyn Fries finished one win short of state at 105. She pinned two opponents after an opening district defeat.

However, Minden’s Myia Hofaker pinned Fries at 2:17 in the heartbreak round.Southern Valley’s Esmeralda Aguayo (12-7) lost at district along with S.W. Adeasha Escobar Salas.
