North Platte Trails Network to host 2nd Annual Pokercycle

Monday, February 6, 2023

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Dust off those bicycles and air up your tires and get registered, the Pokercycle is back! A unique fundraising event, brought to you by the volunteer trails committee members, makes a second appearance on Saturday, April 8th, 2023! The Pokercycle, and North Platte Trails Network fundraising event, is similar to your average poker run, but on a bicycle, and way more fun! The Pokercycle is an 11-ish mile bicycle ride, open to all ages, utilizing multi-use trails in North Platte, including some on-road, multi-use and gravel trails. Costumes highly encouraged!!

The Pokercycle is not a race for who can finish the fastest as participants will have up to 3 hours to complete route in order for their score to count. Along the route, there will be a number of stations from various organizations, clubs or businesses in which you may be required to complete a riddle, task, challenge, etc... for a chance to win an extra prize. Also, at each of the stations, the participant will receive a colored poker chip. These poker chips have a point value; however, participants will not know that value until they arrive back at the finish line.

The person with the highest number of points is the winner. Cash Prize of $100 awarded for 1st Place. Other prizes include the “Slo Pok-r Award” for the person who finishes last and the best costume/decorated bike.

The Pokercycle will begin and end at Pals Brewing Company. You can pre-register online, or register at the event. Registration check-in will begin at 1PM at Pals Brewing Company, with the take-off at 2PM. Cost to register is $25 in advance with proceeds benefitting the North Platte Trails Network. Registrants will also receive a free tire patch/safety kit.

In 2022, over 80 people participated in the event, helping the North Platte Trails Network raise nearly $1,500. Since the completion of the State Farm/Buffalo Bill trail extension in summer of 2023, the North Platte Trails Network has refocused its fundraising efforts to include revamping and extending the Iron Horse Park Trail.
