Falcons edge Trojans, 155-153, at Darrell Barnes meet

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Hitchcock County’s becoming kings of the two-point wins after topping Cambridge, 155-153, during Darrell Barnes Invitational wrestling on Saturday.

The Falcons delivered that same victory margin over Cambridge in their RPAC championship showdown eight days earlier.

Coach Blake Shuler’s boys triumphed behindsenior champions Tanner O’Brien at 160 pounds, Kolyn Gaston at 182 and Keegan Shuler at 195.

O”Brien (25-9) delivered a huge 7-1 semifinal win over Cambridge powerhouse Hunter Perks (32-9).

Gaston (30-3) started his title quest with a quarterfinal pin vs. Trojan Gabe Huntley in 2:56.

Shuler (23-1) scored more valuable team points when — with two seconds remaining — he pinned finals foe Jeremy Felix (33-5) from Alma.

Nathan Kollmorgen’s 10-2 major decision over Trojan Nolan Westdat was another pivotal match as he placed third at 145.

Blake Devitt (23-14) reached the 113-pound final before falling 9-0 to reigning state champ Braxton Hammond of Southern Valley (30-5).

Dylan Kollmorgen (106), Tanner McLain (126) and Taylor Hubl (285) were other third-place finishers for Hitchcock County.

Cambridge delivered three championships from 32-5 Micah Gerlach at 106, 32-2 Dierks Sayer at 126 and 28-8 Tye Stanton at 152.

Jacob Cornett (28-5 at 138) and Adam Corbett (27-7 at 145) both reached title matches while placing second.
