North Platte turns back MCC women's victory quest

NORTH PLATTE – The North Platte Community College women took down McCook Community College 77-65 Tuesday at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Leading 23-18 after one quarter, the Knights outscored MCC 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 41-28 lead at intermission and never trailed.

MCC shot 36.2 percent from the field for the game, made five of 15 shots from beyond the 3-point line (35.7 percent), and connected on 18 of 23 free throws (78.3 percent) for the game.

Sophomore Vanessa Jurewicz (Stockholm, Sweden) led all scorers with 31 points. She made nine of 20 field goals (four of 12 from the 3-point line), and five-for-eight from the charity stripe.

Taryn Lindsey, (freshman, Fountain, Colo.) and Marta Moya Perez (freshman, Alboraya, Spain) both scored eight points. Perez led MCC with five rebounds.

North Platte had four players in double-figures including Reece Halley with 18, Fumnanya Ijeh with 17, and 13 each by Noel Warrior and Mariah Gardner.

North Platte shot 41.4 percent from the floor, sank eight of 15 3-pointers (53.3 percent) and went 21 of 28 from the line (75 percent). The Knights outrebounded MCC 45-32.

NPCC improves to 5-13 and 1-1 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference.

MCC goes to 5-14 and 1-1 in NCCAC play. MCC travels to Lamar Colo. Friday for a 6 p.m. game in the Region IX South. On Sunday MCC travels to Beatrice for a NCCAC contest against Southeast Community College. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
