Addressing negative, misinformation about solar

Monday, January 23, 2023

I would like to address all the negative and misinformation concerning solar farms with facts.

First and last, the bottom line is the tax dollars these farms produce, besides power.

Tax dollars that provide:

— Better equipment for road maintenance or firefighting equipment.

— Better parks like baseball complexes and swimming pools or water parks.

— Better county roads and equipment to build and maintain.

— Better (you name it.)

Yes, solar is a multi-million-dollar business that is good for McCook and Red Willow County.

In my research, I found out Red Willow County is one of the poorest in Nebraska.

Think about that for a minute. Why? Maybe too much negativity. We in McCook and Red Willow County need to help ourselves, not ask some congressman for help!!! That always comes with attachments that are always a huge expense to us.

I will attach websites I searched for answers so you can do the research yourself.

Questions I asked:

What are the advantages of solar energy?

Solar generation resources are desirable for being emission-free and having a zero fuel cost. Nebraska utilities are adding renewables to take advantage of these attributes.

What are the disadvantages of solar power?

The high cost of the panels and the high cost of putting them in.

What makes up a solar panel?

Aluminum (recyclable), tempered glass (recyclable), Encapsulant is a plastic film (recyclable), solar cells are layers of silicon (sand), phosphorus and boron.

How long will they last?

Up to 50 fifty years or more. They can be recycled or reconditioned.

How much maintenance is involved?

Very little cleaning and minor adjustments.

Is there any pollution with solar panels?

Yes, some carbon is caused by the production and placement of panels. The carbon comes from gas and diesel engines used to complete the task above. Once up, zero pollution.

Where does the power go?

Good question, to who pays for it. This is like every other commodity we grow on our farms. McCook and Red Willow County are not paying for panels or the power.

The Better question is — If solar farms are worth millions of dollars, where do the tax dollars go??? A percentage to McCook and Red Willow County. It is a lot of dollars. Solar farms do not cost you anything.

But we as McCook and Red Willow County get a large amount of tax dollars to spend where needed and maybe better where we want.

Then it comes down to the people we are working with. This is the reason for research on our part and not negativity and misinformation. We have to trust someone.

How do you do that? Ask questions you already know the answer to and check your research. I am looking for Honor and Integrity!!!

If those are apparent, then you can have trust!
