Trojans, sizzlin' S.V. Eagles lead RPAC East charge

ALMA, Neb. — Cambridge's girls and boys both conquered RPAC tournament first-round foes on Saturday while advancing into the East Division semifinals at Curtis this week.

The Southwest and Southern Valley girls were other big winners along along with East No. 1 seed Alma.

Girls

Cambridge 58, Medicine Valley 32

The Trojans (9-5 record) dominated through their fifth consecutive win while setting up a rematch vs. East No. 2 Southern Valley tonight.

Junior Brylyn Springer and sophomore Erin Johnson both scored 11 points to lead Cambridge's well-balanced attack.

Sisters Jacey Kent and Jalen Kent both netted nine points — meaning the Trojans were two free throws from four double-figure scorers.

Senior Breelle Miller joined new sharpshooter Mallory Springer to add eight points each. Both girls buried a pair of three-point shots.

Junior Stella Heapy tallied 17 points for the Raiders (5-8) besides her nine rebounds, six steals and three assists.

Med Valley only shot 25 percent overall at 13 for 52. Junior Sienna Houghtelling and sophomore Remmi Stout totaled five points each.

Southern Valley 48, Bertrand 16

Junior Ann Bose scored 25 points to lead a 60-percent effort from two-point range in Southern Valley's 12th win this season (12-2 record).

Bose made 10 field goals with five from three-point distance. She was five for five inside the arc.

Brynn Baily tossed in 12 points including her only shot from long distance.

Tori Bose added four points, Laurel Stalder three, Brecklyn Hammond, Jessica Lambert and Adi Hunt two points each.

Meanwhile, the Eagle defense only allowed Bertrand to hit five field goals ALL game.

Southwest 58, Arapahoe 47

The Southwest girls led from start to finish while matching Cambridge's 9-5 record so far this season.

Arapahoe (7-8) rolled in on a four-game win streak and senior Emerson Swanson scored 17 on six-for-nine shooting.

Yet the Roughriders led 15-7 through one quarter and 28-16 by halftime.

Senior Caylin Barnett's 18 points, seven rebounds topped the SW attack.

Freshman Kyra Nelms powered home 13 points with eight other 'Riders making shots.

Sophomore Atliegh Nelms (six points), senior Bailey Truksa (five), sophomore Anastasia Gallegos (four) and Payton Truksa (four) were other Southwest leaders.

Swanson was super as she hit five of seven three-point shots.

Arapahoe juniors Naomi Gutierrez and Sabrina Jacobsen added nine points each. Jacobsen secured nine rebounds and junior Berkley Warner snabbed eight.

The top-seed Alma girls (11-1) earned a Saturday bye.

BOYS

Cambridge 43, Medicine Valley 39

The Trojans conquered a close Saturday opener thanks to Carson Trompke's 17 points outside and 11 from junior Brohdey Wood inside.

Tromp connected on four three-points shots while freshman Brady Ahlemeyer also drilled a triple.

Cambridge (8-6 record) triumphed as much on defense where Trompke blocked two Raider shots along with pulling down 10 rebounds.,

Wood also cleaned the glass of 10 caroms with junior Ben Hobary securing another six.

Senior Will Taylor slipped another six points through the nets.

Medicine Valley stats were not obtained.

Arapahoe 56, Southwest 34

Campbell Shutz's trio of three-pointers in the fourth quarter finished a dominant Arapahoe victory on Saturday.

The Warriors saw both Schutz and Trenton Roskop net 15 points each.

Senior Cooper Wendland and new Warrior Will Shaw each slipped eight through the Alma High nets.

Shaw scored all eight during a 30-20 first half.

Freshman Kade Fisher swished an early three-point to help the Warriors (7-8) subdue 5-9 Southwest.

SenIor Zack Ryan reached double figures with 10 points, but the Roughriders only scored 14 as a team after intermission.

Senior Cole Barnett connected for five points which kept his team even at 13-13 through one period.

Kaden Ruggles put in four points as Southwest slipped into Tuesday's RPAC consolation round.

Bertrand over Southern Valley

Complete stats were not obtained but Bertrand held the S.V. Eagles to 42 points Saturday.

Isaac Hamilton's 16 points paced Southern Valley while senior Matt Henderson netted nine, Mitch Wilson seven and Kamden Bose six points.
