Tigers down Class B Bulldogs; roundup of all area boys winners

ALLIANCE, Neb. — Junior Jackson Kerchal's 24 points and 17 rebounds lifted Dundy County-Stratton past the Alliance Bulldogs, 69-66, Friday evening.

The Tigers (8-2 record) topped a solid 5-4 Alliance squad as senior Corbin Horner netted 15 points and freshman Ehtan Latta stepped up to add 11.

Coach Kris Freeland's team prevailed despite missing all 10 three-point attempts. Latta did make nine free throws in 14 attempts, aggressively taking it to the hoop against taller Bulldogs.

Senior Alex Englot scored another eight points, including six free throws. Classmate/bro Andrew Englot added seven and freshman Lane Bybee four points.

Horner hustled to nine rebounds besides Kerchal cleaning the backboards for 17. Latta dished out four assists and Horner swiped four steals.

No Alliance details were obtained.

The Tigers returned to Benkelman where they didn't suffer any Saturday letdowns.

Instead, they wrecked Wray, Colo., by a 65-45 final featuring Alex Engl.'s 13 points and 13 rebounds from Andrew Englot.

With another 21 points, Kerchal drained nine of 15 field goals for 60 percent.

Horner netted nine, Latta six and junior Derek Hoffsinger scored five.

The Tigers swiped 18 steals with Horner's four matching Alex Englot for team-leading honors.

Latta and Kerchal blocked two shots apiece while dropping the Wray Eagles to 3-4 this season.

Wolves dominate twice

MAYWOOD, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center boys were more dominant than ever during 35 and 37-point triumphs last weekend.

On Friday, the Wolves (13-0 record) permitted only six second-half points which capped a 55-20 pounding of host Paxton.

Junior Jeremiah Ingison (18 points) and senior Hayden Kramer (17) both nearly matched that Tiger team total. They teamed to make 15 of their 21 field goals for almost 75 percent.

Those top scorers also pulled down 10 rebounds apiece. Ingison had four steals and Kramer totaled three rebounds with three assists.

Senior Kyler Cox contributed nine points as Paxton suffered only it second defeat (6-2) both to M-HC.

Saturday brought more offense in a 79-42 M-HC home victory over Hi-Line.

Ingison lit up the nets for 34 points on 15 field goals besides his team-high 12 rebounds.

Junior Haydn Farr collected 11 while Kramer snagged eight to go with 15 points.

Senior Ory Johnson's seven points were another reason why Wolves fans roared. Cox added seven, Farr five and sophomore Jaxson Anders five.

Cambridge 60, Southwest 32

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Cambridge's four double-figure scorers delivered a big win over the neighbor Southwest Roughriders Friday night.

Senior Will Taylor fired in 14, junior Carson Trompke 13, Brohdey Wood 11 and freshman Brady Ahlemeyer 10.

Wood shot five for seven which meant 71 percent success.

The Trojans (5-6 record) also drained eight three-pointers with two each from Taylor, Trompke and Ahlmeyer.

Junior Ben Hobarty mixed 11 rebounds, more than enough to handle Southwest (4-6) comeback hopes.

Senior Hunter Cunningham's seven points were the SW best. Freshman Krayton Ruggles scored six and senior Zack Ryan five points. The Trojans outrebounded their guests, 41-20.

SW. 48, Wauneta-Palisade 24

BARTLEY, Neb. — The Roughriders rebounded on Saturday behind seniors Cunningham (12) and Ryan (10 points) at home.

Seniors Kaden Day (seven points), Cole Barnett (six) and junior Nathan Rippe (six) were other leaders on a night where nine Roughriders hit baskets.

Ryan buried two from beyond the arc while Barnett, Day and Cunningham each canned one.

Ruggles' seven rebounds with three steals were other Southwest bests.

No individual stats were obtained about the W-P Broncos (2-9).

Hitchcock 56, W-P 24

WAUNETA, Neb. — The Hitchcock County Falcons are now 7-2 entering tonight's game against Dundy County-Statton in Trenton.

No individual stats were obtained.

S. Valley 46, Bertrand 41

BERTRAND, Neb. — The Southern Valley boys (5-4) scored a sweet road win behind senior Matthew Henderson's 13 points Friday night along with 10 each from classmate Mitchel Wilson and freshman Isaac Hamilton.

Henderson hit a trio of three-pointers to show he's still among the area's more explosive scorers.

Junior Kamden Bose contributed seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Junior Rian Grove was good for six points with five more boards.

The Eagles dropped RPAC foe Bertrand to 4-5 this season.

Chase 69, Kimball 45

KIMBALL, Neb. — The Chase County boys led as a 1-2 power punch of Easton Fries' 23 points and Kade Anderson's 21 dominated this showdown of Longhorn teams Friday evening.

Sophomore Tristan Jablonski added 11 points to help Chase County get ready for tonight's game against Southern Valley. Jablonski shot 60 percent on three for five from long distance.

Fries made a pair of three-pointers while senior Stephen Murray connected on his one attempt.

The rebounding was also impressive thanks to Fries' 16 — eight on offense and eight defensively.

Anderson cleared another 10 caroms to go with three assists and three steals.

The Kimball Longhorns slipped to 3-5 overall.

Rawlins 49, Wallace 47

The Rawlins County (Kan.) Buffaloes scored a great road win as junior Bryan Rodriguez scored 17, senior Brandon Chvatal 14 and junior Braxton Dixson 10 Friday evening.

Chvatal totaled 11 rebounds to help the Buffs reach 4-2 in their first game of 2023.
