Paul was drafted into the U.S. Army in July of 1944. He was trained in Fort Stewart, Ga., before being sent to the Philippines, as an infantry replacement. The family made their home north of Edison, Neb., for 16 years before purchasing the Ballard Ranch, southwest of Oxford in 1966. In 1982, Paul and Norma moved into Oxford. Paul was a lifelong farmer and was especially fond of caring for his cattle herd. He loved to play jokes on his grandchildren.
