McCook coaches offer insight about Topside tourney

McCOOK, Neb. — Both McCook coaches offered some insights about the Bison basketball teams playing in this week’s Goodland (Kan.) Topside Tournament.

Both teams take on Burlington (Kan.) this afternoon as mentioned above.

Bison girls coach Amy Scheil:

“Goodland will be a very tough tournament on the girls side of the bracket.

Burlington is rated in the top ten of their class and Goodland won state last year with a lot of their team coming back.

The girls will need to play together and put a lot of pressure on their opponent. We need to rebound a lot better, since we have lost the rebounding game the last two games. We have been focusing on rebounding in practice so I look to see this aspect of the game improve.

In our first two games we missed a lot of outside shots the where open so as the season progresses and the girls get in game shape I think a lot of those open outside shots will go in. It’s nice to see the outside open up which is mainly because our driving to the basket is getting better."

Bison boys coach Joe Imus:

“The tournament is loaded with great teams once again.

Burlington is a much improved team from last year and they’ll be playing with a lot of confidence. If we can get by them then it will likely be Wray who is a frequent participant at the state tournament in Colorado.”
