WAUNETA, Neb. — Trailing by four, the Cambridge Trojans held Wauneta-Palisade to three fourth-quarter points and rallied for a 45-43 victory Friday evening.

The Trojans reached 2-0 even though Bronco junior GraCee Goings netted 16 points and junior Peyton Cox added 12 with 13 rebounds.

Junior Chloe Stehno added eight more points for the Broncos (1-1), who led after each of the first three periods.

W-P coach Matt Cox didn't complain about how his team played against the experienced, talented Trojans.

"We played really well well against a team that was much longer than we were," he remarked. "We went cold in the fourth quarter because we looked scared to lose. We stopped running in transition and we just couldn't get anything going in the half-court. We did a great job the first three quarters and got to the foul line 23 times."

Goings finished four for four at the line but other Broncos hit just five of 18 attempts.

M-HC 61, Southwest 42

BARTLEY, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center girls are flexing again as senior Olvia Hansen's 20 points powered this Saturday afternoon win over talented Southwest.

Freshman Karissa Stengel stepped up to score seven while five Wolves netted four points apiece: seniors Mataya Roberts, Kiley Hejtmanek, Alexis Wood, sophomore Kesli Cox and freshman Blayklee Farr.

Hansen delivered another "20" with 12 rebounds and eight assists.

The Wolves (2-0) shot to a 17-4 lead through one quarter which defused any rallies from Southwest (1-1). Senior Caylin Barnett's 16 points paced the Roughriders and freshman Kyra Nelms netted eight.

Freshman Anikka Nelms dropped through five points.

Southern Valley 62, Elm Creek 38

ELM CREEK, Neb. — Junior Ann Bose scored 28 points and the Southern Valley girls shot 49 percent overall in a dominant first win this season.

Adi Hunt followed with 12 points, Tori Bose six and another six from Brnn Baily.

The Eagles (1-1) hit 54.4 percent of their two-point shots. They also shot 76.5 percent at the free-throw line, finishing 13 for 17.

Meanwhile, they held Elm Creek to a woeful 22.8% of field-goal attempts.

Paxton 42, Medicine Valley 36

PAXTON, Neb. — Junior Stella Heapy's 20 points and 11 rebounds from senior Milla Farr kept the Raiders (0-2) within striking distance Friday evening.

Med Valley led 13-12 after one quarter and was tied 19-19 at halftime.

However, they struggled at 13 for 56 from two-point rage. Heapy hit four three-pointers and junior Kylie Rose connected once.
