ELWOOD, Neb. — Cambridge was only three points from beating defending Class D state champion at the Hi-Line Invitational on Friday.

Top eight team scores among 15 competing: 1. Sutherland 167.5, 2. Cambridge 165, 3. Hi-Line 131, 4. Maxwell 97.5, 5. Arapahoe 88, 6. Perkins County 87, 7. S-E-M 70, 8. Garden County 67; 12. Dundy County-Stratton 56, 13. Medicine Valley 45, 14. Wauneta-Palisade 25.

Top four Gazette-area placers in each weight class.

113 pounds: Angel Rodriguez (5-1 record) won the championship with a medical forfeit finals win over Micah Gerlach, Cambridge.

Gerlach (5-1) placed second.

126: Dierks Sayer, Cambridge (6-0) won the championship with a 10-5 finals win over O.Nutter, SUTH.

152: Adam Corbett, Cambridge (4-0) won the championship with his 9-3 victory over E. Messersmith, MAX.

Jacob Smith, DC-S (6-3) placed fourth.

145: Jacob Corbett, Cambridge (5-0) won the championship with a 10-7 win over G. Hunt, GC.

Titus Goshert, ARAP (5-1), placed third when he pinned Kohan Grindle, CAM (4-2), who finished fourth.

195: Blake Emig, Dundy County-Stratton (7-1) won the championship when he scored a 1:16 pin of Josh Gage, MV (2-1), who placed second.

16: Rafe Hill, ARAP, placed second though he was pinned in 2:40 by champ Tripp Davenport, Overton.

Tye Stanton, CAM (7-1), placed third when he pinned G. Roberson, GC, in 2:16.

170: Hunter Perks, CAM (6-1), placed second though he lost 6-1 to champ Adyn Kaps, SUTH.

220: Jordan Ruf, CAM (4-2), placed second though he was pinned in 2:58 by champ Jaycob Young, MAX (3-0).

Aspen Henderson, MV (3-1), placed third when he scored a :37 pin over Draven Miner, W-P (2-2), who placed fourth.

120: Clayton North, ARAP (2-2) placed fourth.
