McCOOK, Neb. — Lloyd Bennett “Bud” Keenportz, age 85, formerly of McCook, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Neb. He was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Dodge City, Kan., to Lloyd and Lena Keenportz.

Bud graduated from Dodge City High School in 1956. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Anderson. They were married on Aug. 15, 1956. They made their home in Dodge City, where they started their family. During this time in Dodge City, Bud had many sales positions. He enjoyed selling Coca-Cola and during this time he worked for John Pressney Enterprises at the sugar warehouse.

In 1976, he made his career with Cornbelt, which brought his family to McCook. During his McCook years, he worked off and on at Cornbelt and RSA Microtech. One of the highlights of living in McCook was owning and operating Barbe’s Marina at the Red Willow Lake.

Bud was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, where he held various positions. He was a deacon and held various other positions in the church. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his kids. As he grew older his hobbies included wood working, coin, gun, and various other antique collecting. Other hobbies that Bud enjoyed were smoking meat, barbecuing, and passing that love onto his sons and grandsons.

Grandpa Bud was a grandpa to everyone, including the staff and friends at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, where he spent the last two years of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his three sisters and brothers-in-law; one infant son, Lloyd Keenportz, and one infant granddaughter, Haley.

He is survived by his children, Brian Keith of McCook, Jon Bruce and wife, Gina of Beaver City, Rebecca Ann of McCook, and Brent Wayne and wife, Tracy of Grand Island, Neb. Grandpa Bud has eight grandchildren who he loved and adored, Steven, Jon, Zach, Jesse and Makayla, Josh and wife, Darcie, Mekenzie and husband, Roman, Hannah and Nathan, Myah and Alec. He has three great-granddaughters, Olivia, Hadley, and Jade and three great-grandsons, Jacob, Bently, and Cordell.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., with family present. Funeral will be Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. with burial after. This will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Home in McCook. Memorials will be determined at a later date.
