Dowsing can find graves at Genoa

Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Dear Editor

I would like to make a few comments in regard to the two-page article about the Genoa, Neb., Indian boarding school. The finding of the unmarked graves of the Indian children would be a good thing. A bill in the House of Representatives is to fund a project to help find these graves.

I believe a few professional and amateur dowsers could find the graves. If you don't believe in dowsing that is your concern, but it is possible for dowsers to locate unmarked graves

One of the problems at Genoa might be that the area was a Mormon settlement before the government gave the 640 acres to the boarding school.

A Mormon man by the name of Henry James Hudson set up a rest station for the many Mormons going to Salt Lake. The Mormons set up these stations about every 100 miles. Some of them set up homes at this station, built houses and planted crops.

When they were forced off the land, some burned their homes and crops. Some buildings were left, but not many.

Genoa is only one of the 400 and some that has this problem. I hope it can be corrected. I do like Nebraska history and would like to try dowsing there myself.

Thanks for your consideration.

Best regards,

John Hubert,

McCook, Neb.
