Raiders split; 'Riders sweep with big win over Overton

CURTIS, Neb. — Senior Stella Heapy served four aces and classmate Milla Farr made 14 digs along with five kills in Medicine Valley’s 25-23, 25-21 win over Arapahoe on Thursday.

The Raiders are now 11-5 as they later lost a tight two-setter to 17-3 Paxton which capped this triangular.

Classes were well-represented with Heapy, junior Sienna Houghtelling and sophomore Remmi Stout drilling four kills each in the M.V. victory.

Stout also served two aces while junior Kylie Rose delivered 10 assists.

No individual details were available for Arapahoe. The Warriors (8-10) dropped a 25-22, 25-18 match to Paxton.

Southwest revenge

ALMA, Neb. — Southwest (17-4 record) dealt Overton only its third defeat with a thrilling 25-23, 28-26 win Thursday evening.

Senior Caylin Barnett blasted 16 kills, sophomore Bailey Truska drilled 10 and setter Bryn Lampe totaled 23 assists with nine digs.

Another 12 digs from sophomore Allison VanPelt and Atleigh Nelms’ nine helped Southwest avenge a super-close defeat to Overton just last week.

Anikka Nelms’ four blocks were another reason why the ’Riders prevailed. Freshman Kyra Nelms added two blocks.

Southwest also stopped a strong Alma team 25-15, 25-9 in this triangular on Thursday.

Barnett broke into double-digit kills again with 10 while Truksa nailed nine and nine digs.

Kyra Nelms totaled seven blocks for a season-best. Lampe remains a bright light of consistency, totaling 22 assists. Atleigh Nelms made eight digs with Van Pelt hustling for another seven.

Trojans win again

HOXIE, Kan. — The Cambridge Trojans are now 18-1 following two sweeps at Thursday’s Hoxie, Kan., volleyball triangular.

Cambridge conquered an 18-win Hoxie team (18-6) in a 25-11, 25-18 decision.

Coach Lauren Carpenter’s team also took on 16-5 Axtell and the Trojans prevailed25-15, 25-18.

No individual stats were obtained from these two wins.

Longhorns split

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Senior Bryn McNair’s 15 kills powered the Chase County Longhorns past Perkins County 25-18, 25-13 on Thursday.

Sophomore Landree McNair set up Chase hitters with 10 assists.

The ’Horns (8-9) also served six aces as Bryn had two, Ali McNair one, Elizabeth Reeves one, Tristan Nordhausen and another from senior Joee Clevenger.

Chase dropped a 25-14, 25-13 match to 20-2 Gothenburg on Thursday. Bryn McNair put down eight kills.
