McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College Golf team ran away with the team title at home for the first Region IX tournament of the season and a pair of MCC teammates shared top individual honors.

MCC shot a two-day 587 to win by 21 shots over second-place Eastern Wyoming and 42 shots ahead of third place Lamar.

“It was a really good two-day tournament for us and a very encouraging way start to the season,” said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.

MCC was the only team to post back-to-back sub-300 rounds following Thursday’s 295 with a 292 Friday.

“The first day we had loads of birdies but several doubles and triples, today was a steady round of 292,” Loop said.

MCC teammates Ethan Gough and Cade Cryer shared the tournament title shooting even golf and both finishing with scores of 144.

Gough the sophomore from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa followed his 73 on Thursday with a 71 on Friday.

Freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) finished off his first collegiate tournament with 70 on Friday after posting a 74 on his first day.

Sophomores Jordan Bingham and Cayden Wynne finished in the top six as well.

“With about six holes to go it was a tight race between Ethan, Cade, Jordan, and Cayden for first individually and the two good friends from South Africa ended up tying for first.” Loop said.

Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) had back-to-back days of 74 and 73 to finish three over par, and his 147 was good for fourth place.
