Roughriders both run and pass to 60-6 opening win

BARTLEY, Neb. — Junior Nathan Rippe went Heisman all over South Platte as Southwest's quarterback hit triple digits in both rushing and passing yards during a 60-6 Roughrider opening rout Thursday night.

Rippe competed five passes for 132 yards which turned into touchdowns to three different receivers.

Carter Van Pelt caught two TDS among his team-best four receptions covering 91 yards.

Senior Kaden Day made his one catch count with a 40-yard touchdown and classmate Tyler Ellis matched that feat with his 24-yard TD.

Rippe also reached 100 rushing yards thanks to one 67-yard six-point journey.

The Roughriders only led 8-0 through one quarter but 40-6 entering halftime.

Junior Hunter Blume gained another 71 yards on just six rushes with another TD.

Freshman Damario Koetter carried two times to 48 yards and another pigskin paradise visit.

Southwest gained 310 rushing yards overall, 465 total because of 155 through the air.

Defensively, junior Trenton Williams made 13 tackles (four solos).

Rippe and freshman Krayton Rugges both picked off a South Platte pass.

Day also recovered two fumbles and Ellis one for five Southwest takeaways overall.
